Young Families, Children and Youth

Congregation Darchei Noam offers a variety of programs geared towards young families, children, and youth.

Holiday activities

On most holidays, we offer a special activity for children aged 2-10. This is a great way to involve children in holiday celebrations at a level and during a time that works for young families.  For example, on Rosh HaShana morning, children learned about the shofar and then joined the congregation’s shofar service.  During Chanukah, they made special dreidls and then opened our special Shabbat service with a song and light show.  Over Tu B’shvat young families participated in a community Tu B’shvat seder with stories, songs, and activity.

Tot Pajama Party

Young families with kids aged 3-6 meet once every 6 weeks on Saturday evening.
They come in their pajamas with their favorite teddy bear for havdalah, a story, and activity surrounding Jewish values.

Photography Club

Our bar/bat mitzvah graduates stay connected to the congregation and have found many creative ways to explore their Judaism.  We offer a weekly Photography Club in which teens learn the basics of photography as well as connect with Jewish values.  Past projects include:

  • A photo-montage of Congregation Darchei Noam and life in Ramat HaSharon.
  • Documenting the building of our community sukkah.
  • Exhibiting their work at a local retirement home.
  • Visiting with elderly members of the congregation to learn about their traditions through photographs.

Family Excursions

Throughout the year, young families gather on Shabbat afternoon to visit different sites of interest in our region.
Past excursions include Old Jaffa, havdalah on the Sharon boardwalk on the sea, and national parks.
